Abstract: This report identifies the ecological differences between hardwood and conifer dominated ecosystems; summarizes the silvical characteristics of the main hardwood species (aspen, black cottonwood, balsam poplar, red alder, paper birch and bigleaf maple); and, to suggests further research needs.
