Pilot Inventory for Pacific Yew de Jong, R.J.
1995

Abstract: Two separate classification methods were tested in a stratified, random sampling design study to inventory Pacific yew: ecosystem based classification and forest cover based classification. The purpose was to identify strata with high concentrations of yew, for maximum precision and efficiency of the inventory. Results of a pilot study indicated that both approaches will identify such concentrations. While the ecosystem classification yields more precise estimates, the forest cover classification is more widely available. Strengths and weaknesses of both approaches, and differences in the estimates, are discussed.
