Algard Creek underwent some accelerated de-stabilization during flood events in 2002 and 2003. Lateral instability and streambed movement and deposition redirected the main creek flows to the right bank. The left bank of the floodplain was isolated to all but the most extreme high waters. The right bank with its high silt content underwent severe erosion and the possibility of the creek breaking through was becoming a real concern. The sediment effects and of most importance the potential destruction of the existing natural and improved fish habitat areas downstream required that bank stabilization be done. The stabilization work was successfully carried out in late August, 2004.
