Abstract: This report covers: 1 Edge Transects: for establishment, maintenance and remeasurement from among 8 sites. 2 Variable Retention Adaptive Monitoring (VRAM) Transects: for establishment, maintenance and remeasurement from among 6 sites. Objectives: Few studies exist to examine the growth response of seedlings (?the next crop?) at edges of retention patches or under low levels of dispersed retention such as are common under variable retention systems. This information is important as it examines the effect of edges and retention on growth. As variable retention systems are new to Coastal B.C. few data and no analysis framework exists. There are no published Provincial standard methodologies or approaches for addressing this issue. However, there are reasonably straight forward sampling systems and measurement protocols adopted by Cascadia forest Products that have been developed over the last 5 years. by Nick Smith
