The 2003 McLure wildfire destroyed Tolko?s WRP assessment and restoration planning reports completed for the North Thompson drainage, effectively halting their efforts in watershed restoration. This project locates and reviews Tolko?s restoration plans and identifies high priority works that were not completed (outstanding). Target watersheds and/or sub-basins were prioritized based on their fisheries value and the overall impact of past forest development. This project will assist Tolko in developing a new WRP implementation plan. Sixty-eight WRP assessment reports were completed for Tolko?s North Thompson operating area, however, restoration plans were targeted for the Upper North Thompson, Petersen, Barriere and Louis watersheds. A review of these reports indicated the majority of high priority sites identified as outstanding are located in the Upper North Thompson watershed. Of the seven sub-basins in Tolko?s operating area in the Upper North Thompson Lempriere and Manteau were identified as priorities for restoration based on their value to the fisheries resource (contribute to coho and bull trout populations). Six of the eight high priority restoration sites identified in these two sub-basins were rated as high sediment hazards, further reinforcing the need to complete restoration planning. The majority of these sites are located in remote high elevation areas potentially increasing restoration costs. To complete a restoration plan for Tolko a cost-benefit and risk analysis is recommended for all eight high priority sites in the Lempriere and Manteau sub-basins.
