British Columbia Timber Sales (BCTS) has expressed the need for management strategies for species at risk within their operating areas to mitigate impacts resulting from forestry operations. The area addressed by this report is the BCTS Okanagan Columbia Business Area, comprised of the Okanagan-Shuswap Forest District and Columbia Forest District. This report addresses plant species at risk and plant (ecological) communities at risk; animal species at risk have been addressed previously in another report. Government direction, especially the Identified Wildlife Management Strategy (IWMS), provides guidance for forest management of a minority of species at risk; however, most species at risk are not included in the present list of species in the IWMS. Other species at risk have been identified as having specific management requirements through land use plans. A few species have provincial or national Recovery Strategies to provide direction. This report provides a summary for all the plant and ecosystem species at risk in the Okanagan-Shuswap and Columbia Forest Districts, including a risk assessment for those species in the context of BCTS operations, a summary of the legal/policy and biological issues for each species, a concise synopsis of important information for each species, and management recommendations for each species.
