Inorganic fertilizer (Nutricote T40) was introduced to the Link and Benson rivers in the summer of 2008 as part of a Vancouver Island nutrient enrichment program. A total of 860 kg was applied to boost primary production through the summer growing season. Effectiveness monitoring was instituted to evaluate fertilizer treatments and included water chemistry analysis for low-level nutrients as well as chlorophyll a analysis of algal samples. BC Conservation Foundation, Friends of the Marble River Society and the Northern Vancouver Island Salmonid Enhancement Association were involved with project design, fertilizer applications and effectiveness monitoring.
