The project objective is to permanently deactivate the Spencer Creek SC970 roads to mitigate the hazard of a landslides event. There was evidence of instability along this road, as is evident form past slide events. The SC970 roads were priorized for reduction of the high hazard of a slope failure. The SC970 roads were identified by Weyerhaeuser Company Limited, West Island Timberlands Unit as a high priority for road deactivation because of previous instability problems associated with these road located on steep terrain. The SC970 roads were constructed across a westerly facing slope at approximately 800 m elevation. These roads were previously semi-permanently deactivated, with a light pull back of the over steepened fill slopes. Residual fills remained, which were slumping in a number of locations and as a result this road is considered a very high hazard for a slopes failure.
