In the summer of 2003, Western Forest Products Ltd. completed prescribed maintenance work on the Groundwater Channel and Backwater Channel at Site 3 of the Oktwanch River in order to address a sudden reduction to base flows entering the system. The work involved the following: removing riffles and lowering the invert of channels, to reconnect reaches that had become isolated from one another due to the reduction in base flows; and excavating refuge ponds to improve the survivability of fish survival during extended periods of dry weather.
