This study will determine whether interpretations of soil compaction can be improved by comparing field soil bulk density to the theoretical maximum bulk density determined with the Proctor compaction test. We are planning to collect soil samples for determination of the maximum (Proctor) compaction value on existing long-term soil productivity (LTSP) sites that have a complete record of soil bulk density and tree growth data. The maximum value, along with previously determined field bulk density will be used to determine a 'relative' soil bulk density. The relative bulk density will be used as an index to describe soil compaction. Maja Krzic...[et al.]
