The proposed research will adapt and apply recent methods developed in disturbance ecology, combined with established methods to examine fire-return intervals, to compare the frequency and impact of biotic versus abiotic disturbance agents along an ecological gradient of sub-boreal, dry warm to wet cold ecosystems. The research will quantify the disturbance regimes in these ecosystems. It will provide guidelines for implementation of alternative silviculture systems that are meant to emulate natural disturbance processes. Kathy J. Lewis
