2004

Abstract: In 2002, a preliminary project determined site codes from TEM attributes for NDT4 types on TFL 15, for a total of 17,575 hectares. In 2003, TEM and forest cover mapping was enhanced to provide better site and structure coding and preliminary management recommendations were developed for the new site and structure codes. A literature review of management of western larch (Lw) and ponderosa pine (Py) was also completed. In 2003/04 (4207003) management recommendations were verified in the field over a range of site and stand structures, refined to reflect requirments of Okanagan Shuswap LRMP and potential forest health impacts. Format of the managment recommendations and strategies were also refined using hyperlnks. The 2004/05 project will integrate the potential effects of fire into the managment reccomendations and stratgies. When completed, prescribing foresters will use the TFL 15 Douglas-fir Protocol to plan NDT4 forest management. The first plan of its kind available for use on TFL 15, the Douglas-fir Protocol represents an improvement over the status quo.
