The primary purpose of this project was to facilitate fish passage through a poorly-performing culvert and to maintain existing culvert inlet control to preserve the wetted area for fish habitat above the road. Replacing the existing culverts with larger culverts at Tributary D1 to the Pachena River will also reduce the occurrence of flooding over the Bamfield Access Road by increasing the flow capacity across the road, further preserving fish habitat.
