The LSC established a Public Advisory Group (PAG) in the fall of 2004 to assist with developing a Sustainable Forest Management Plan (SFMP) for the Defined Forest Area in the Prince George Forest District. The SFMP?s values, objectives, indicators, targets, and variances (that is, the Performance Matrix) were completed in late April 2005. Since that time, the LSC has continued to promote participation in the PAG by inviting local First Nations and the public. Between April 1, 2006 and March 31, 2007, the PAG met four times, with an average of twelve public members at each meeting. The PAG continued to monitor and develop the SFMP?s Criteria and Elements Performance Matrix and participated in two PAG subcommittees to address items of high priority on the Continuous Improvement Matrix, Access and Quality Old Forest. These subcommittees met a total of four times. They were provided with information on their topics and are responsible for developing indicators for the PAG to consider. PAG members also participated in a field meeting designed to provide information and an additional forum for discussion on indicators and topics of interest to the PAG. PAG meetings, including the field meeting, continued to be evaluated using a standard evaluation form. PAG members continue to consistently rate the meeting and PAG process, facilitator, and meeting logistics at or above 78%. Over the upcoming twelve months, the PAG will continue to monitor and continuously improve the SFMP. This will include continuing work on the two subcommittees. The PAG will also need to meet to review its Terms of Reference. The LSC is hoping to provide PAG members with another opportunity to participate in a field meeting to further the public?s understanding of current and new forest management practices.
