8 of the 41 sites where foliar analysis was done in 2006 will have screening trials installed to determine which stands are responsive to fertilization ?i.e. nutrient uptake and growth response. Screening trials consist of 30, 0.01 ha circular mini-plots with two ?treatment? trees per mini-plot. One of 3 treatments will be applied randomly on each of the 30 mini-plots: two fertilization treatments (20 mini-plots) and one control (10 mini-plots). Foliar analysis and needle mass measurements will be completed in the fall one growing season following fertilization to quantify the fertilization response. Fertilization blends used will be based on recommendations from the MoFR forest nutrition specialist. Interpretation of the screening trial results will be done by the MoFR forest nutrition specialist.
