A 5m high logjam that formed across Reach MQ1 of Maquilla Creek prevented the migration of anadromous salmonids up Maquilla Creek. This barrier presented a total blockage to anadromous fish passage. Trapping efforts in the lower part of Reach MQ2 (above the log jam) yielded only cutthroat trout and Dolly Varden char; no anadromous juveniles were observed.
2001 works at this site consisted of excavating a by-pass channel and installing concrete block intake structures to control and direct flows into the newly excavated channel and then into the old remnant channel, thus allowing adult and juvenile fish passage.
