This is a continuation of work commenced during the 2006/07 fiscal year (reference project #4582008). Results from that previous work indicated additional sampling would be required to accomplish the project objectives.
The purpose of this project will be to field verify optimization modelling outputs in relation to actual ?on-the-ground? forest habitat elements and forest structural conditions important to biodiversity and other ecological values of sustainable forestry for draft OGMAs (ILMB 2007) proposed for deletion and for new old forest reserve areas proposed to replace draft OGMAs. A revised reserve system will be presented to government as an alternative to the current draft spatial OGMAs.
Work will consist of the following phases:
1) A field sampling plan will be designed based on analytical modelling results from SFM-related projects for the Boundary TSA.
2) Potential ecosystem reserves for draft OGMAs to be reallocated by new reserve areas will be field sampled.
3) A quality control field check will be conducted by a professional biologist or ecologist and a representative from ILMB.
4) Report and recommendations.
