Within the Kispiox Timber Supply Area (TSA) forest licensees and the Ministry of Forests have a mutual interest in the selection, monitoring, analysis, and reporting out of progress towards achievement of indicators for objectives set by government (OSBG.s).
Licensees have Forest Stewardship Plan (FSP) commitments to:
. define initial (current) condition of indicators for certain landscape-level objectives, e.g. Biodiversity (Seral Stage, Patch Size), Water (Hydrological Integrity), Forest Connectivity, etc.
. identify imbalance between initial condition and desired condition. Where imbalance exists, to develop an action plan to maintain or move toward desired condition (thresholds/measures) at the end of the FSP term.
. establish a process for monitoring changes to initial condition resulting from primary forest activities.
The parties have formed the Kispiox/Cranberry OSBG-Indicator Monitoring and Assessment (KOMA) Working Group, a subcommittee of the TSA Steering Committee, to discuss and reach consensus on choice of indicators and monitoring and analysis approaches. The Kispiox Timber Supply Area Patch Size Distribution and Seral Stage Analysis report and associated maps and tables have been completed by the BC Timber Sales Skeena Business Area as per the requirements of the KOMA Working Group.
