The objective of this report is to synthesize available information and outline an approach for the management of fishers (Martes pennanti) in British Columbia. This contribution is the third in series for Class 2 species and follows management strategies for lynx (1) and wolverine (2). Class 2 species are "those that move between and among traplines, are vulnerable to over-trapping and are generally not found in manageable numbers within a single registered trapline". Comprehensive reviews of fisher biology are in Strickland et al. (1982b) and in Douglas and Strickland (1987). These publications are readily available and a third review is unnecessary. Although some duplication is inevitable, this effort differs in that the focus is on the management of fisher populations and their habitats. This document was written for wildlife management staff, for trappers, and for researchers. Practical aspects are emphasized and whenever applicable, technical considerations are presented, including a review of live trap
