Abstract: This paper provides an overview of different tools and processes used to conserve ecosystems and heritage values. Conservation tools include temporary conservation measures such as stewardship agreements, licences and leases; and permanent conservation measures such as conservation covenants, and purchases, bequests or donations of land. Conservation processes involve evaluating and selecting priority acquisition projects and candidates for conservation covenants.
