Abstract: On November 14, 1979, approximately 18,500 hatchery reared Deadman River steelhead fry were released into a section of the Bonaparte River above the falls as part of a colonization program. The Fish Habitat Improvement Section studied the Bonaparte River from September 17 to 23, 1980 with the dual purpose of (1) evaluating the success of the steelhead fry release, and (2) collecting the second year of background fish population and habitat data prior to barrier modification. This report discusses the steelhead fry release evaluation. A second year of habitat and fish population data will be discussed in a report to follow.
