This report describes and rates grizzly bear habitat in the Flathead River Valley of southwestern British Columbia. This area is mapped at a scale of 1:50,000 and includes portions of N.T.S. 82G/1 and 82G/2. The study was used as a pilot area to develop a method for mapping habitat and estimating carrying capacity for grizzly bears (Fuhr 1987). Biophysical habitat mapping was used to rate the area for bears. Habitats and grizzly bear carrying capacity are shown on the same map. This report and map provide information on the present and potential vegetation within the study area. These can aid in determining habitat protection and enhancement opportunities for bear habitat.
