This document provides a progress report on initiatives in British Columbia related to the five goals of the Canadian Biodiversity Strategy. For Goal 1 on conservation and sustainable use, initiatives include protecting endangered species, ensuring sustainable harvest of wild flora and fauna, reducing the discharge of harmful substances, restoring damaged ecosystems and dealing with human population and development. For Goal 2 on ecological management capability, the Province is improving its capacity to conduct research, increasing the scope and amount of inventory, improving data-comparability and access, establishing better ways of integrated planning and environmental assessment, and improving monitoring efforts. For Goal 3 on education and awareness, the Province has embarked upon a variety of educational activities related to biodiversity that target a wide range of the province's citizenry.
