Standard methods for selecting, collecting and evaluating potential broodstocks for BC trout hatcheries are presented. Broodstocks which may alleviate management problems, such as stocks for coarse fish lakes, are of prime concern. In order to evaluate these stocks without bias, biological and physical data must be systematically collected using standardized method and recorded on standard data sheets for ease of analysis and interpretation. Criteria for selecting broodlakes and broodfish, and the information required for evluating the progeny of the stocks are presented.
