Currently, the California bighorn sheep is on the Blue List of terrestrial vertebrates, which means it is considered “vulnerable”. This classification indicates that it is likely to become threatened or endangered in British Columbia if factors affecting its vulnerability are not reversed. The provincial or national ranking for the California bighorn sheep is currently S3, which is on the Blue List. This status report developed a revised ranking that includes viability of sub-populations and the fragility of the species and its habitat in British Columbia. This revised ranking is S2S3 for the provincial or national rank.
