The techniques presented in this paper are a critical
element of calculating the cost benefit value of hill
slope stabilization work. Specifically, these techniques
can be used to determine the down slope damages
(consequences) of a potential road fill failure. With
accurate estimates of a road fill failure’s down slope
consequences it is possible to assess landslide risk (risk
= hazard x consequences), the opportunity cost of
permitting a failure to occur, and the cost benefit value
of stabilizing the roadway.
