In July 2001, a draft report titled “Population Assessment of the Northern Spotted Owl in British Columbia 1992 – 2000” was released to a group of selected individuals and organizations for review and comments. This draft report identified that the Spotted Owl population has declined
during the 9-year study and provided possible causes and hypothetical scenarios that may have influenced the observed decline and could affect the future of the Spotted Owl population. Since the release of this draft 2001 report, additional Spotted Owl surveys and data analyses have been conducted that confirm this decline and broaden our understanding of the potential factors affecting the Spotted Owl population. In July of 2002, “Population Assessment of the Northern Spotted Owl in British Columbia 1992-2001” was finalized.
