In 1992, the Callaghan Lake study area was announced as one of the candidate areas in the Lower Mainland region under the Provincial Protected Areas Strategy (PAS). A Study Team, chaired by BC Lands of the Ministry of Environment, Lands & Parks (MELP), was formed in early 1993 to address the range of land use options for the study area.
