Radar surveys of Marbled Murrelets were completed on Northwest Vancouver Island to estiamte the population size and distribution in this region. High frequency marine radar was used to count murrelets flying inland at 32 sites on NWVI. Maximum counts of murrelets flying inland before dawn ranged from 2 at Sea Otter Cove to 860 at the Klashkish River. Using the maximum counts at each site a minimum of 6133 murrelets is estimated to occur in the area surveyed. The top five watersheds with the highest counts of murrelets were the Klashkish (860 birds), Power (420 birds), Tashish (394 birds), Artlish (603 birds) and Leiner (420 birds) rivers.
