In 1996, we initiated a 3 year study to locate and identify bat species and their habitat requirements in Clayoquot Sound, west coast Vancouver Island, Canada. We used two bat sampling methods: mistnetting to determine species presence, and echlocation call monitoring to compare bat habitat use in different forest stands. We confirmed the presence of four and possibly five species of bats: Hoary Bat, Big Brown Bat, California Myotis, Little Brown Myotis, and possibly Yuma Myotis.
