The Establishment of Vegetation on Tailing Ponds in British Columbia Keller, R. A.

Abstract: A review of the literature concerning planting of tailing impoundments found that although tailing stabilization studies were rare, some of the extensive strip-mine research was pertinent. The feasibility of grassing tailings deposits was demonstrated. It is concluded that the afforestation is most suitable for erosion control, however, there is need for further research regarding its practicality. Specific recommendations are given for establishing plant cover on the Cowichan Lake Copper Mine tailing deposits.
