In British Columbia there is increasing interest in utilization of mountain whitefish as a sport fish. On the lower mainland and in some areas of the interior, local but moderately intense sport fishing is carried out for this whitefish, particularly during fall and winter months. Recently, requests have been received from sportsmen to have catch limits and closed seasons applied to this species. In view of this awakening interest it may be useful to review briefly available information on the life history and management of the mountain whitefish in British Columbia and in other regions of its range.
