This report covers the findings of a comprehensive study of a sector of the scrap steel recycling industry in British Columbia. It focuses on scrap automobiles and scrap white goods (major household appliances). Commodity flows through the recycling industry are charted from the very start of the process, that is the generation of scrap material by consumers, to its final usage by steel mills and exporters. Sources of supply, prices paid and market conditions are examined at each stage of the recycling process.
