Smoke Opacity: Training Course Notes Ministry of Environment
1978

Abstract: The opacity measurement technique permits a visual determination of the nature of an emission to the atmosphere. The visual method is quick, convenient, economical and may be recommended for the evaluation of emissions from modified wood-waste burners, incinerators or certain other sources which are difficult to measure by source testing techniques. The Opacity method also allows the operator of a combustion device to adjust his system to ensure compliance with Pollution Control Branch requirements. The course is of a general nature and does not require a technical background or completion of any prior course. Minimum vision requirement (with glasses, if required) is that sufficient to obtain a driver's licence in British Columbia.
