At approximately 0800 hrs., December 24, 1980, Bruce Cox and Gordon Mackinnon drove across the Pitt River Road bridge crossing the Coquitlam River. The river was extremely colored, to the point where the bottom was not visible. They preceeded to the office and collected the necessary equipment -- camera, sampling kit, etc. -- needed to investigate the cause of the problem. They left the office at 0910 hrs. proceeding directly to the Coquitlam River.
