Residual Pesticide Survey: Okanagan Valley Ministry of Environment
1995

Abstract: It is known that certain agricultural producers and other users of commercial pesticides have stockpiled obsolete or other unwanted pesticides. This is because of the high cost for an individual to dispose of unwanted pesticides. The long-term storage of these residual pesticides is a threat to the environment because containers deteriorate over time, they may be spilled and contaminate storage areas or groundwater, or be mistaken for other farm products and poison livestock or people. A pilot survey and disposal project was conducted in the Lower Mainland region of BC in 1993/94. Over six metric tons of residual pesticide was collected.
