Abstract: The Elk Valley Selenium Task Force (EVSTF) is a committee consisting of representatives from the five coal mining operations of Elk Valley Coal Corporation;Teck Cominco Limited; Ministry of Environment; B.C. Ministry of Energy,Mines, and Petroleum Resources; and, Environment Canada. As the EVSTF has an interest in establishing the future direction for monitoring and management of selenium originating from coal mines, the EVSTF has identified and compiled a substantial number of selenium monitoring and research studies that have been conducted in the Elk Valley over that past 10 years. To assist it in better understanding the scientific validity of these studies, existing data gaps, and the options for managing issues related to selenium releases into the environment, the EVSTF has retained the services of the following four experts in the area of seleniumtoxicology (see Appendix 1 for more information on the experts qualifications).
