Okanagan Lake Nitrogen and Phosphorus Loadings, 1982 Alexander, Garry D
1982

Abstract: As part of the Okanagan Basin Implementation Agreement, nutrient loadings to the main valley lakes were updated to indicate changes in loadings that had taken place since 1970 and to identify the current major sources of nutrients for management control purposes. Phosphorus loadings, the nutrient of greatest concern with respect to lake management in the Okanagan, are discussed with regard to trends and changes in lake quality in the Report of the Okanagan Basin Implementation Agreement. This report summarizes the nitrogen and phosphorus loadings to the lakes from different sources and details the methods by which the loading estimates were produced for sources where this information is not reported elsewhere. For this reason, this report concerns mainly the determination of loadings from municipal and industrial sources and natural watershed sources; the calculation of total loadings to Osoyoos Lake; the application of results from other studies to estimate bioavailable loadings from watershed sources and me

Smog Plan National Tracking System Altech Environmental Consulting Ltd
1997

Abstract: Companies are generall aware of major initiatives to reduce emissions but have not attempted to link changes in their emission inventories to specific emission reduction measures. The majority of the industrial respondents indicated that they are presently focusing on developing their emission inventories as opposed to tracking emission reductive initiatives. Initiatives to reduce smog-related emissions are summarized below.

Abstract: The Ministry of Environment, Land and Parks has been conducting baseline studies of the potential impacts of urban and rural development on Saanich Inlet. The primary objective of the Saanich inlet Study (SIS) is to determine the sensitivities of the inlet environment and its capacity to assimilate contaminants and marine habitat disturbances without environmental degradation. To supplement the existing information in the report Water Use Inventory & Water Quality Assessment Aquatic Science Consultants Ltd. collected water and sediment samples form Saanich Inlet. This report presents the methodologies used and the results from this survey.

Abstract: This draft report outlines economic measures that could be used to help manage air quality in the Greater Vancouver Regional District. These measures could include fee systems for pollution or transferable emission caps. This report assesses the feasibility of these ideas and makes recommendations.

Water Quality Assessment and Objectives for Sechelt Inlet Sunshine Coast Area Arber, J.C.
1993

Abstract: This report assesses the marine water quality of Sechelt Inlet. Natural restrictions on water movements may lead to episodes of water quality deterioration. Human effects on ambient water quality from existing point sources (for example, permitted effluents) and from most diffuse sources have been relatively minor to date. There is no evidence of significant long-term trends towards declining water quality, such as excessive accumulation of nutrients, which can be linked to human activities. Water quality objectives are recommended to protect the most sensitive designated marine water uses, which include aquatic life and waterfowl, mariculture, shellfish harvesting for human consumption, and primary-contact recreation. A monitoring program is proposed to determine whether the recommended objectives are being met and whether additional objectives should be considered in the future. These water quality objectives and monitoring recommendations are intended primarily for Porpoise Bay, which is most at risk from

British Columbia Ministry of the Environment, Lands and Parks Petroleum Hydrocarbon Methods Study (1998): Round Robin and Single Laboratory Results Final Report ASL Analytical Service Laboratories Ltd.
1999

Abstract: In July of 1998, private and government laboratories in British Columbia and Alberta were requested by the British Columbia Ministry of the Environment, Lands, and Parks (BCMELP) to participate in a Petroleum Hydrocarbon round robin quality assurance study. The purpose of the study was to evaluate the performance and associated variability of BC Environment?s new analytical methods for Petroleum Hydrocarbons (Draft 2.0, October 1998). Nine laboratories participated in the round robin study, which evaluated the new hydrocarbon methods using eight Reference Samples containing petroleum hydrocarbons, and seven Quality Control (QC) samples that are daily QC requirements specified by the methods. Where applicable, Polycyclic and Monocyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons (PAH and MAH) were evaluated in addition to the aggregate hydrocarbon parameters described in the methods. Replicate analyses (n=6) were performed by ASL Analytical Service Laboratories for the same fifteen samples, and are included in this report as Single
