Abstract |
Mountain pine beetle (MPB) is the major natural disturbance agent affecting the management of lodgepole pine forests in B.C. The large size of MPB outbreaks does not permit logging of all stands. An understanding of the impact of MPB on the growth and yield of residual stands, regeneration, woody debris dynamics and fire potential is needed to evaluate the impact of MPB outbreaks on timber supply, habitat values and fire hazard. This project will assess the impact of MPB on additional long-term established plots in south-eastern B.C. over a range of stand conditions and geographic areas, and investigate modeling techniques to project future stand and ecosystem development.
