Impact of Intensive Forestry Practices on Net Stand Values in British Columbia
Nawitka Renewable Resource Consultants Ltd.
In British Columbia among professional foresters there are a variety of opinions about the physical responses to intensive forest management practices. There are three reasons for this professional disagreement: - an imperfect awareness and understanding of forest growth and yield principles - failure to discriminate between the total stand and the merchantable part of the stand - failure to interpret research results under operational conditions. The purpose of this part of the report is to build a trail from the treatment responses predicted by theory and demonstrated by research results, through the changes caused by focusing on the merchantable part of the stand, to further changes caused by applying treatments in operational conditions.
