Abstract
A slope failure resulting from previous road deactivation was noted during a TSA review of an adjacent proposed road. Further inspection of the deactivated road revealed that sediment deposition in the existing cross ditches was beginning to divert water along the road surface and away from the natural drainage patterns. The professional geotechnical engineer on site agreed that re-establishing the cross ditches was a priority on order to ensure that proper drainage was established before the next freshet. The MoFR district engineering officer issued approval under Section 52 of the Forest Act for work to proceed as soon as possible to restore natural drainage in the area. Work was carried out during October 2005.
