Abstract
A partnership of Canadian Forest Products Limited (CanFor), 'Namgis First Nation and the International Woodworkers of America (IWA) are restoring watersheds within the Nimpkish River basin (TFL 37). Funding for this program is supplied by the Forest Investment Account (FIA) and works under the auspices of the Nimpkish Resource Management Board (NRMB) whose members include CanFor, ?Namgis First Nation, Federal Department of Fisheries and Oceans (DFO), the Ministry of Water, Land and Air Protection (MWLAP), Gwani hatchery, Woss Community hatchery, and Port McNeill Chinook Club/Kokish hatchery. This program, initially funded by Forest Renewal B.C. (FRBC) under the supervision of the Ministry of Water, Land and Air Protection (MWLAP) for instream projects and the Ministry of Forests (MOF) for upslope and road projects, has been working in the watershed since 1997. A substantial amount of work has been completed to date including road and slope stabilisation and rehabilitation, road deactivation, and stream channel and fish habitat restoration. The instream portion alone has been responsible for the construction of over seven hundred individual structures in thirteen sub-basins within the watershed. by Northwest Hydraulic Consultants Ltd. and ALBY Systems Ltd. ; submitted to Canadian Forest Products Ltd. and 'Namgis First Nation.
