Scientific Name: Lewinskya striata
Scientific Name Synonyms: Orthotrichum striatum
English Name:

Provincial Status Summary
Status: S4
Date Status Assigned: April 30, 2023
Date Last Reviewed: April 30, 2023
Reasons: This is likely quite a common species in SW BC, and probably not very threatened.

Range
Range Extent: EF = 5,000-200,000 square km
Range Extent Comments: Using documented locations, this species occurs over ca. 13,000 sq km. A larger range is likely especially if records from Mt Robson Park and Peterson Creek bridge on Alcan highway are valid collections.

Occurrences & Population
Number of Occurrences: CD = 21 - 300
Comments: There are 28 specimens at UBC but also very common throughout Vancouver on street trees and occasionally walls but also on hardwood trees in natural habitats. This species is probably overlooked and under-collected due to its similarity to other Orthotrichum spp. (S. Joya, pers. comm. 2014).
Number of Occurrences with Good Viability / Ecological Integrity: U = Unknown
Number of Occurrences Appropriately Protected & Managed: U = Unknown
Population Size: U = Unknown

Threats (to population, occurrences, or area affected)
Degree of Threat: Unknown
Comments: Probably not highly threatend as this species is able to colonize city trees and walls.

Trend (in population, range, area occupied, and/or condition of occurrences)
