English Name: Swift Forktail

Provincial Status Summary
Status: S4
Date Status Assigned: December 30, 1998
Date Last Reviewed: March 15, 2023
Reasons: South coastal lowland species with restricted range, most of it in areas with high human impact; most common in Fraser Valley; often locally distributed; can be common in good habitat, but not as abundant as two of the other Ischnura species. Suitable habitat is broad in scope.

Range
Range Extent: F = 20,000-200,000 square km
Range Extent Estimate (km2): 49, 501
Range Extent Comments: Scattered over Vancouver Island, lower mainland and a few locations up the Sunshine Coast.
Area of Occupancy (km2): EF = 26-500

Occurrences & Population
Number of Occurrences: CD = 21 - 300
Comments: Approximately 70 known, likely more.
Number of Occurrences with Good Viability / Ecological Integrity: Rank Factor not assessed
Number of Occurrences Appropriately Protected & Managed: Rank Factor not assessed
Population Size: Rank Factor not assessed

Threats (to population, occurrences, or area affected)
Degree of Threat: D = Low
Comments: Found in a variety of habitats (ponds, slow streams and lakes, wetlands in peat) so despite many threats to wetlands in the pacific coastal lowlands, the overall threat is low.

Trend (in population, range, area occupied, and/or condition of occurrences)
