Juncus kelloggii
Kellogg's rush

Scientific Name: Juncus kelloggii
English Name: Kellogg's rush

Provincial Status Summary
Status: S1S2
Date Status Assigned: April 30, 2019
Date Last Reviewed: April 30, 2019
Reasons: There are currently 2 known occurrences of Juncus kelloggii in British Columbia, both of which are considered extant. The range extent is less than 100 square kilometres and the area of occupancy is 8 square kilometres.

Range
Range Extent: A = <100 square km
Range Extent Comments: The range extent for Juncus kelloggii, calculated using a convex hull, is less than 100 square kilometres; known only from Uplands Park and Department of National Defense lands west of Victoria.
Area of Occupancy (km2): BC = 2-5
Area of Occupancy Comments: The area of occupancy, using a 2km x 2km grid cell for extant occurrences, is 8 square kilometres. Other observations within the range could exist given the habitat and amount of private land throughout the region.

Occurrences & Population
Number of Occurrences: A = 1 - 5
Comments: There are currently 2 known occurrences of Juncus kelloggii in British Columbia, both of which are considered extant. The most recently discovered location was documented in 2018 (UBC Herbarium reference, date accessed?). The occurrence at Uplands Park has been known since 1985. The COSEWIC status report only reported on one known location in Uplands Park (COSEWIC 2003).
Number of Occurrences with Good Viability / Ecological Integrity: B = 1 - 3
Number of Occurrences Appropriately Protected & Managed: B = 1 - 3
Population Size: Rank Factor not assessed
Comments: Population size is not considered an effective rank factor for plants with an annual life history.

Threats (to population, occurrences, or area affected)
Degree of Threat: BC = High - medium

Trend (in population, range, area occupied, and/or condition of occurrences)
