| Provincial Status Summary | |
| Status: | S2? |
| Date Status Assigned: | April 27, 2022 |
| Date Last Reviewed: | April 27, 2022 |
| Reasons: | There are currently 5 known occurrences of Papaver pygmaeum in British Columbia, 2 of which are considered extant. The range extent is 215 square kilometres and the area of occupancy is 8 square kilometres. No discernible threats in the remote habitats of this species have been noted by the observers. |
| Range | |
| Range Extent: | BC = 100-1,000 square km |
| Range Extent Comments: | The range extent for Papaver pygmaeum, calculated using a convex hull, is 215 square kilometres; from near the US border in Akamina Kishinena Provincial Park north to Scarpe Mountain. Additional inventory is needed. |
| Area of Occupancy (km2): | BC = 2-5 |
| Area of Occupancy Comments: | The area of occupancy, using a 2km x 2km grid cell for extant occurrences, is 8 square kilometres. Additional inventory is needed. |
| Occurrences & Population | |
| Number of Occurrences: | AB = 1 - 20 |
| Comments: | There are currently 5 known occurrences of Papaver pygmaeum in British Columbia, 2 of which are considered extant. Other occurrences are potential with an adequate amount of directed surveys, which hasn't taken place to date. Three historic sites in remote locations may be extant but logistically it is difficult to get to access to them. Intensive surveys in 2021 in the Elk Valley did not reveal additional occurrences. |
| Number of Occurrences with Good Viability / Ecological Integrity: | B = 1 - 3 |
| Number of Occurrences Appropriately Protected & Managed: | C = 4 - 12 |
| Comments: | There are 4 protected occurrences in Akamina Kishinena Provincial Park. |
| Population Size: | U = Unknown |
| Comments: | Both extant occurrences were sampled in 2015 with up to 85 plants enumerated. |
| Threats (to population, occurrences, or area affected) | |
