Macromia magnifica
Western River Cruiser

Scientific Name: Macromia magnifica
English Name: Western River Cruiser

Provincial Status Summary
Status: S3
Date Status Assigned:
Date Last Reviewed: March 15, 2023
Reasons: This species has a restricted range in the Fraser Valley, Okanagan-Shuswap and Christina Lake/ Pend d'Oreille Valley. It s is uncommon along margins of warm lakes and rivers. As the species lives in areas of relatively high human population, such habitats are targets for development and recreational activities, which degrade habitat.

Range
Range Extent: F = 20,000-200,000 square km
Range Extent Estimate (km2): 36,505
Range Extent Comments: This species is found primarily through the Okanagan Valley north to the Shuswap and then along the southern border at Cultus Lake, Christina Creek and the Pend d'Oreille. The range extent is approximately 36,505 km 2.
Area of Occupancy (km2): DE = 6-125
Area of Occupancy Estimate (km2): 92

Occurrences & Population
Number of Occurrences: C = 21 - 80
Comments: There are approximately 20-24 sites known for this species (2023), which is likely an underestimate.

Number of Occurrences Appropriately Protected & Managed: Rank Factor not assessed
Population Size: U = Unknown

Threats (to population, occurrences, or area affected)
Degree of Threat: U = Unknown
Comments: This species is found on the margins of warm lakes and rivers where there is development potential and heavy human use.
