Provincial Status Summary
Status: S4?

Reasons: There are very few records of this species; however, it has been found in broad habitat types over a large range in the province.

Range
Range Extent: FG = 20,000-2,500,000 square km
Range Extent Comments: Recorded from mainland south and central BC in lakes, rivers, streams, muskeg pools and ponds (Clarke 1981).
Area of Occupancy (km2): U = Unknown

Occurrences & Population
Number of Occurrences: CD = 21 - 300
Comments: Only 4 records known within its range (Mackie 2014). There is one record in INaturalist (#188062200, accessed Nov. 11, 2024); however it is not identified as research grade.
Number of Occurrences with Good Viability / Ecological Integrity: Rank Factor not assessed
Percent Area with Good Viability / Ecological Integrity: U = Unknown
Number of Occurrences Appropriately Protected & Managed: Rank Factor not assessed
Population Size: U = Unknown

Threats (to population, occurrences, or area affected)
Degree of Threat: U = Unknown
Comments: not assessed

Trend (in population, range, area occupied, and/or condition of occurrences)
Short-Term Trend: U = Unknown
Comments: Population trends unknown but its widespread distribution suggests stable with populations probably increasing (Mackie 2014).
Long-Term Trend: U = Unknown

Other Factors
Intrinsic Vulnerability: Rank Factor not assessed
Comments: Lives only ~1 year and produces few young. Dispersal mechanisms apparently excellent being present from Quebec to British Columbia and Northwest Territories (Mackie 2014).
Environmental Specificity: D=Broad. Generalist or community with all key requirements common.
Comments: Occurs in ponds, marshes and small and large lakes and rivers, with little apparent preference for substrate types (Mackie 2014).
