Global Habitat Comments: With the foodplants in mountain clearings and valleys in Canada; sagebrush, oak woodland etc. southward.

Global Food Habits Comments: Caterpillar Hosts: Goldenrod (Solidago), rabbitbrush (Chrysothamnus), and asters. Adult Food: Flower nectar (Lotts and Naberhaus 2017).

Distribution
Endemic: N
Global Range Comment: This intermountain species ranges from southern British Columbia and Alberta, Canada, south to southern California, and through the Rocky Mountains to Utah and Colorado, US (Lotts and Naberhaus 2019). The species is absent from most of the Great Basin except for the east slope of the Sierra Nevada and the mountains of central Utah (Scott 1986). It is unrecorded from basinland except the eastern Columbia Gorge of Washington (Pyle and LaBar 2019).
