General Description:

Similar Species:
Global Reproduction Comments: Plants flower from July to September, and they produce a large amount of small seeds (Collins et al. 2020).
Global Ecology Comments: Pine Broomrape nearly always occurs with and is parasitic, host-specific on Holodiscus discolor (Rosaceae), outside the range of that shrub, it has been found with other species of Holodiscus (Collins et al. 2020).

Global Habitat Comments: This species is found with Holodiscus discolor (Rosaceae) on rocky slopes, and in dry coniferous forests at elevations ranging from 200 to 2500 meters (Collins et al. 2020).

Global Range Comment: Pine Broomrape (Orobanche pinorum) occurs in western North America, in the western United States, and extreme southwestern British Columbia, Canada. In the United States, it occurs in Washington, Oregon, California, Nevada, Idaho, and New Mexico. Range extent was estimated to be 1.8 million square kilometers, using herbarium specimens, photo-based observations, and NatureServe Network occurrence data collected between 1993 and 2024 (Collins et al. 2020, CCH2 Portal 2024, GBIF 2024, iNaturalist 2024, NatureServe 2024, SEINet 2024).
